Is a TELC certificate accepted for an EU long-term resident permit?
The Regulation of the Polish Minister of the Interior and Administration of 31 May 2023 requires a Polish language level of at least B1 and lists TELC certificates among the documents accepted as proof of the language proficiency required for an EU long-term resident permit.
A B1 certificate is accepted
B1 is the minimum level specified by the regulation for confirming Polish language proficiency in this procedure.
A B2 certificate is also accepted
B2 is above the required minimum of B1. A TELC B2 certificate therefore also confirms that the language requirement has been met.
Why do many candidates find TELC simpler than the state exam?
TELC assesses the main language skills in a more compact and predictable format. This is particularly helpful for people who have lived in Poland for years and communicate confidently but are concerned about formal grammar exercises or extensive writing tasks.
No separate grammar examination
TELC does not contain a separate “Grammatical Accuracy” module like the Polish state examination. Grammar is assessed in language tasks, writing and spoken communication.

How do you obtain a TELC B1 or B2 certificate?
01 — Choose an exam date
Check the current schedule and leave enough time before your planned document submission date.
02 — Register online
Complete the registration form and pay the examination fee. The exam costs 1150 PLN.
03 — Take the exam
The written and oral parts normally take place on the same day at our examination centre in Warsaw.
04 — Receive your result
Results are usually available within 6–8 weeks. If you pass, you will receive a digital TELC certificate.

What does the TELC Polish B1·B2 exam involve?
The exam consists of written and oral parts. The tasks assess practical use of the Polish language.
Written part
- listening — approximately 25 minutes;
- reading — approximately 40 minutes;
- language elements — approximately 20 minutes;
- writing — 30 minutes, one email.
Oral part
- 20 minutes of preparation;
- approximately 16 minutes of examination;
- the examination normally takes place in pairs;
- describing a photograph, presenting a topic and discussion.
For which purposes is a TELC certificate accepted?
A TELC certificate is accepted for
- TELC B1 or B2 — an EU long-term resident permit;
- TELC B2 — admission to higher education in Poland.
A TELC certificate is not accepted for
- Polish citizenship;
- admission to a Polish post-secondary school (szkoła policealna);
- recognition of professional qualifications by the Polish Medical Chamber or Nursing Chamber.
Can you register directly for the exam?
Yes. Most of our candidates register directly for the exam. A preparation course is not required to take TELC.

Yes. A TELC certificate in Polish at level B1 or above is included in the list of accepted proofs of language proficiency established by Polish law for this procedure.
Do Polish immigration offices accept TELC certificates?
Yes. TELC is listed in the annex to the Regulation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration of 31 May 2023, Journal of Laws 2023, item 1076.
Is a TELC B2 certificate also accepted?
Yes. Polish regulations require at least B1. A B2 certificate confirms a higher level and also meets the language requirement.
Do I need to choose B1 or B2 before the exam?
No. TELC Polish B1·B2 is a dual-level exam. You take one exam, and your result determines whether you receive a B1 or B2 certificate. If your result is below B1, no certificate is issued.
Does TELC have a separate grammar examination?
There is no separate “Grammatical Accuracy” module like the one in the Polish state examination. Language accuracy is still assessed in the tasks, written work and oral examination.
