TELC B2 is listed in the regulation

A TELC certificate is included in the official list of documents confirming Polish language proficiency at B2 level or higher for studies taught in Polish.

One B1·B2 exam

You do not select a separate B1 or B2 examination. You take the TELC Polish B1·B2 exam, and your result determines the level stated on your certificate.

What does the regulation say?

The regulation specifies documents that may be used to confirm proficiency in the language of instruction. For degree programmes taught in Polish, the required language level is at least B2.

Annex 1 explicitly lists a Polish language certificate issued by telc GmbH / TELC.

Who do these rules apply to?

The regulation applies to a category of international candidates specified by law who are not citizens of the European Union and are applying for degree programmes taught in Polish.

No separate grammar section

TELC does not have a separate module equivalent to the “Poprawność gramatyczna” section of the Polish state examination. Language accuracy is assessed within practical tasks.

Predictable writing task

In the writing section, candidates write an email according to the instructions. Task completion, text organisation, communication and language accuracy are assessed.

Oral exam in pairs

The oral examination includes a conversation, a presentation and a discussion. Candidates receive 20 minutes to prepare before the oral examination.

One dual-level exam

TELC Polish B1·B2 assesses language skills across two adjacent levels. You do not have to declare before the exam whether you are taking B1 or B2.

You need a B2 result for university

The level stated on your certificate depends on your result. If you need a B2 document for university admission, you must achieve a result corresponding to B2 level.

TELC Polish B1·B2

• Exams are held every week, making it easier to coordinate your exam with university admission deadlines.
• The written part takes approximately 135 minutes, and the oral part approximately 16 minutes in pairs.
• Both parts take place on the same day, so only one visit to the examination centre is required.
• There is no separate grammar module corresponding to the “Poprawność gramatyczna” section of the state exam.
• Candidates write an email following a known and predictable format.
• The exam has a dual-level format — the result may confirm either B1 or B2.
• The standard waiting time for the result and certificate is approximately 6–8 weeks.
• The certificate is included in the exam fee and has been issued digitally since 2026.

CENTRALLY SCHEDULED SESSIONS · EXTENDED FORMAT

Polish State B2 Examination

• It is held only on centrally scheduled dates announced by the State Commission.
• The written part may take up to 250 minutes, and the oral part up to 15 minutes.
• The examination session is planned over two days according to the central schedule.
• It includes a separate “Poprawność gramatyczna” module.
• The written section includes more text types and requires preparation for a broader range of tasks.
• Candidates register directly for B2 level.
• In practice, the state certificate may take approximately 4–6 months to be issued.
• An additional fee is charged for issuing the state certificate.
