Temporary Residence in Poland in Connection with Education
Education in Poland may, in certain circumstances, be declared as the purpose of temporary residence. The competent voivode makes an individual decision after assessing the purpose of stay, the education programme and the submitted documents.
Can education be the purpose of temporary residence?
Polish procedures allow an application connected with forms of education other than full-time university studies or doctoral education.
The education must be genuine and justify the foreign national’s stay in Poland for more than three months.
Genuine purpose of stay
The authority assesses whether education is the real and principal reason for staying in Poland.
Duration of education
The documents must show that the education justifies a stay exceeding three months.
Individual decision
Paying for a course and receiving a school certificate do not automatically result in a residence permit.
Important: an educational institution can confirm facts about education, but it does not issue residence decisions and cannot guarantee a positive outcome.
What may need to be demonstrated?
The exact list depends on the applicant’s circumstances and the current procedure. Do not rely on old lists, addresses or financial amounts.
Information about education
- type and programme of education;
- start and end dates;
- mode and frequency of classes;
- tuition and payment information;
- evidence of participation.
General residence conditions
- valid travel document;
- health insurance;
- sufficient financial resources;
- place of residence;
- proof of the required administrative fee;
- other attachments listed in MOS.
Always verify the current checklist directly in MOS or on the official website of the voivodeship office competent for your place of residence.
Temporary residence and EU long-term residence are different
A Polish B1 certificate concerns the separate EU long-term resident procedure. It does not replace documents confirming the purpose of temporary residence connected with education.

Does a language course guarantee a residence permit?
No. Paying for a course or receiving a school certificate does not guarantee a positive decision.
Does Smart Vision School offer a year-long residence course?
No. We are not currently enrolling students in such a course.
Where can I find the current document checklist?
Use the official MOS portal and the website of the voivodeship office competent for your place of residence.
How do I apply in 2026?
From 27 April 2026, residence applications are generally submitted electronically through MOS, subject to exceptions published by the authorities.
Is B1 required for temporary residence connected with education?
A B1 certificate does not replace documents concerning education. Confirmation of at least B1 Polish applies, among other things, to the separate EU long-term resident procedure.
Does Smart Vision School provide immigration assistance?
No. We do not provide immigration legal services. Individual cases should be discussed with the competent authority or a qualified professional.
